Puppy Supplies
In addition to Crate, bedding & Xpen (Supplied as needed by BTH)
  1. Spray bottles on stream - to stop behaviors. 
  2. Paper towels For clean up.
  3. Neutralizer and disinfectant. Make certain it is safe for pups and dry before they walk on it. 
  4. Baby wipes (uncscented) - to clean up pups.
  5. Puppy shampoo - for occasional baths and to dilute on a wet paper towel for clean ups.  
  6. Food and Water bowls.
  7. Chicken/small training treats For high value training treats - great for learning “come”.
  8. Puppy Pads. Cover a large area with these, then as they learn to use the pads, reduce the number. Supplied by BTH.
  9. Toys. Initially soft furry toys (Goodwill! No button eyes/other items that can be chewed off or choke). They also enjoy empty plastic containers, water bottles, paper bags, toilet/paper towel tubes…some ideas!
Puppy Xpen & Crate Setup
Xpens & crates provide a comfortable area for rest, exercise, & paper training - placed in a climate controlled area, where fosters are kept separate from other animals.
  • Pads & toys are placed in Xpen
  • Bed and soft toys inside crate
  • Puppies naturally avoid potty inside their sleep area
  • Small kennels inside the Xpen option
  • Shallow water dish/drip
  • Carpeted floors avoided or protected
Timeline - These apply to new fosters as well as adopters!

Do not socialize outside your yard until 72 hours post 4th vaccine at 16 weeks old!
0-4 weeks  - Bottle feed; keep isolated from other animals. **Not for new fosters
4-6 weeks - Mush feed; gradually increasing dry food. 
6-9 weeks - Dry food; keep isolated until 72 hours post 2nd vaccine - then you can let them into your yard & meet your pets, provided they are healthy.
9-16 weeks - Dry food; continue to keep isolated from public, neighbors & parks.
16 weeks - 4th vaccine plus 72 hours - Ok to socialize beyond own yard & pets.

Feeding 
Mush puppies 4-6 weeks (feed 4X daily)
  • A mix of canned and dry food
    • Nutrasource Puppy Dry Food 
    • Wellness Puppy Canned Food
    • Start with small amount dry mixed with can
    • Gradually increase the amount of dry over these 2 weeks.
Puppies 6-12 weeks (Gradually reduce feedings to 3X daily)
  • Dry food based on weight
  • Note: You may want to feed & give treats inside crate to assist with crate training.

Feeding your dog a brand of pet food that is natural and high in vitamins and nutrients play a large part in maintaining your dog's overall health.
